Mailbag: Ask Sage (6) & More

Greetings & Salutations! Hope you’re well! As family matters and work got hectic there, I was forced to take a hiatus, but I’m happy to announce I’m back and getting back in the saddle here.

My mailbag is COMPLETELY FULL, so I thought I might start by catching up on some of the question… for those of you who have been waiting for an answer, thanks for your patience!

Before I get to that, I do have a couple of exciting announcements:

First,

13 Moons to Becoming Wiccan is now available in paperback!

Second:

Introducing my New YouTube Channel: Magical Arts & Witch Crafts

Third:

Enter to Win a copy of 13 Moons in paperback by watching my first video!

And now, let’s dig into that mailbag!

Hi there… I’d love to help you out, but unfortunately, Witchcraft just doesn’t work that way. If I could just say the right word, it would have saved me YEARS of meditation and mental discipline!

Think of it this way: let’s say you wanted to learn how to play the piano. Someone can give you all the notes, but that doesn’t mean you can just sit down and play a song. You have to learn how to play the instrument, you have to train your fingers to move properly, you have to practice.

I can give you words; but words aren’t going to do it. A Witch can’t just say words and make things go ‘poof’. Magic only works like that in the movies or on TV.

You have to learn what your mind should be doing, and train your mind to do it. There are just no shortcuts, I’m afraid. If you want to get to the point where a spell works for you, then you’ll have to spend the next few months/years studying Witchcraft, meditating and training your mind in order to make it work.

Hello! I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been unhappy! I realize there can be a lot of complex issues behind that so I just hope that you’re finding your way through that to feel better.

As for my experiences at the beginning of my journey… wow, it’s hard to just put it in a nutshell. I’d been a seeker for a long time before I stumbled upon my path. At first it was exciting– Witchcraft was always something I was drawn to, it always fascinated me. It was a little frightening– I didn’t know what I might be getting into, and all those rumors and horror stories! It was also overwhelming– there just seemed so much to learn.

I was impatient back then. I rushed things. I wanted things to happen, fast. I needed things. I wanted my way. I skimped on preparation.  I made a lot of mistakes and had a lot of things fizzle out, but there were some successes and they were exhilarating. I was lucky to find good teachers who taught me to slow down, shut up and stop being impulsive.

I guess what surprised me most is that it wasn’t as ‘supernatural-ish’ as I had expected. In fact, it seemed things worked out rather naturally… it looks a lot just like coincidence most of the time. But dozens of coincidences begin to stack up and eventually you realize they’re not random; you see that you can make it happen.

The real power seemed to be more in the internal transformation than in anything external I could nudge in my favor… that’s when the real growth comes, when you begin learning that the better you are at mastering yourself, the better you are at mastering magic. Knowing yourself (the good, the bad and the ugly), stripping away the delusions, facing the inner ‘demons’ and the ‘guardian at the gate’, learning to accept yourself– or change yourself if you don’t like something, gaining self-control, increasing self-discipline… it’s when these things get going that the big changes start to come.

I could probably write a book on my years as a Witch. I’m an entirely different person than I used to be. It’s really help me grow and evolve, I could probably go on for hours about this!

Short and to the point… I like it.

That is a really hard question. There are a lot of reasons spells go wrong. Some people think if you just read words, or follow instructions to light a candle or burn an herb, then things will just happen. It doesn’t work that way.

First I would ask you, how much studying have you done? Do you understand what you’re actually doing? Have you done enough study to tell if the spells you’re finding are even good ones?

How much time have you spent meditating, learning to focus, to visualize? When you cast a spell, do you understand why you’re doing what it says to do? Are you keeping the right frame of mind after the spell?

As you can see, there is a lot involved. Since I don’t know anything about your background, what spells you’re specifically casting, or what kind of training you have, I couldn’t begin to guess. But if all or most of your spells are failing, I’d say you should go back to the basics… you are probably missing some vital details.

Hello there. I get a lot of requests from people asking if I can personally mentor them. Unfortunately, there aren’t enough hours in the day for me to do that. I do teach classes and workshops, I have a book out, I’ve written hundreds of articles, plus I just started that YouTube channel, so you can get a lot of what I have to teach from those. Beyond that, I can’t do any one-on-one right now, and I’m not taking on any new year-and-a-day Wicca students right now.

Your best bet would be to find someone local, though. Check out Witchvox.com and see if you can find any local classes, shops, events, etc. and do some networking. I wish you much luck! You know what they say– when the student is ready, the teacher will come.

Well, I’m not one to believe in white vs. black Witchcraft. The way I see it, it all works on the same principles.

Put it this way: if you walk into a store to buy a knife, do you ask for a ‘white knife’ to cut your food, but a ‘black knife’ to kill someone? No… a knife is a knife. There’s no special kind of knife to hurt someone. Likewise, there is no different kind of magic to hurt someone.

It all works based on the same principles. It’s up to you to use it responsibly.

If you have a knife and don’t want to stab anyone– don’t stab anyone. Same thing with Witchcraft; if you don’t want to hurt people or use it unethically, then don’t.

As for running a coven; you really have to join a coven and work your way up before you can run one. A coven leader is a spiritual leader; that’s not a job people should take lightly. The best way to learn it is as a student first, then as a teacher.

Best of luck to you!

Whew, I am going to give it a break for now… that was a lot of mail! But I’ll catch up some more next week. In the meantime, many blessings!

Magical Forecast: December 2016

4th Wednesday of the Month: spell planning guide for next month

Greetings and Salutations! The year is coming to a close, and Mercury has decided to ride it out backwards. As I warned you last month, there isn’t as much of an abundance of magical working opportunities like we had in October and November; however, the month is not without promise!mfd1

As usual, check a local moon calendar for the actual time things are happening in your time zone! Particularly be aware of moon Void of Course this month, because we have a couple of long VOC periods.

December opens with a Waxing moon on a Thursday, and the moon sign is Capricorn. Great time for spells in which you’re seeing long-term success. Career spells are well suited for this time. If you’re looking for a job or promotion, or to expand your business or client base, take advantage now!

If you happen to need to cast a spell on any of your technology, Saturday the 3rd would be a good time. Use the power of Saturn to push it through successfully. Perhaps take a moment to cast a spell on all your electronics and devices to protect them from the upcoming Mercury retrograde, when electronics tend to have break-downs.

Monday the 5th will be great for dream work and divination this month. If you need answers, now is the time to seek them.

The 7th-8th there’s a long Void of course moon period to watch out for. At this point, we’re getting ready for Mercury to start his ol’ backpedaling. The shadow of MRx is already coming upon us.

mfd2However, if you do have any long-term projects that are going to require stamina and you want to shoot a magical push that way, you’ll want to do it in Sunday the 11th. The moon is in Taurus, great for the long haul, and the Sun’s day gives a nice burst of power. This timing is especially suited for practical matters: the home, career, material possessions, financial issues and health.

The 15th-16th brings another long VOC to avoid.

The Full Moon is in Gemini this month, which is not good energy for long-lasting things. Gemini is fickle. But, if you do need a burst of luck, like for a one-shot deal (gamble, exams, etc.), go for it.

By the 19th, we are in full-out Mercury retrograde, which means spells can be extremely tricky. Not that MRx is the end of the world or anything; no zaps of lightening are going to come from the sky. But that retrograde energy of Mercury can be tricky to work with, even for the most experienced spellcasters.mfd3

There are times when you can take advantage of MRx.  One good example is Tuesday the 20th. The moon is waning and in Libra. If you have a life situation that has just not been going in a good direction, you might borrow some of that ‘reversal’ energy from MRx and try to tip those Libra scales in the other direction. With a bit of Mars energy afforded (being a Tuesday), it could work.

Happy Winter Solstice! Sit back and enjoy this solstice with peaceful meditations. Don’t try to go deep or accomplish anything; just allow yourself to soak in the peace, good will and joyful energies that practically the whole world is humming with this week.

mfd4

Come and spend the Solstice with me!

Suffering from a bad break-up or loss? Then Friday the 23rd, with a little help from Scorpio and a little help from Mercury Rx, you might be able to turn things around for yourself. I’d work on something simple to just cut the ties that bind so you can get over the past and prepare to move on.

The final week of December, from the 25th on, is not a good time to trust messages or signs that come to you. There is a high chance of miscommunications, of being misled, of misreading the situation. Just take note for now; re-evaluate the information at a later date, when Mercury turns around and heads direct again. For now, just try to have a peaceful and quiet rest of the year.

With the winter holiday season coming to a close, as well as the year, let yourself relax, rest and recharge as a new cycle begins.

Magical Forecast: November 2016

4th Wednesday of the Month: spell planning guide for next month

So here we are, and it is the splendid month of November, and it actually looks very good in terms of spell planning. In fact, it looks MUCH better than December will be, due to that pesky Mercury going retrograde again, so if you really need to get something done, you should not wait— jump on it in November.

Reminder: always check with your local moon calendar guides for exact timing and avoid planning your magic while the moon is void of course!

nmf1As the month opens we’ll be seeing the glorious waxing crescent in the sky. On Tuesday the 1st of November, draw from the strength of Mars and Jupiter; it is a good time to cast a spell for success in competitions or physical challenges. Spells at this time will give you a boost to help you get out of the gate running, so to speak. Alternatively, if you’re starting any new magical or metaphysical pursuits, you can give yourself a powerful boost here too with a spell for success.

If you need any career spells– new business ventures, new business openings, getting a job, getting a promotion, etc. — then Thursday, November 3 is the best possible day for it.  It’s a waxing moon on a Thursday in Capricorn, so you have the energy of Jupiter and Saturn behind the growing moon. This is good stuff for any ambitious career goals!

That Capricorn energy is carrying over all the way through Saturday, November 5th., a good day for casting spells if you need to exert controlling energies over someone. This is not a day for gentle manipulations or urgings; this is not a honey I need you to finish your chores kind of manipulation. This is more of a boss, I need you to stop sexually harassing me or bully, I need you to back off kind of manipulation. Whenever you’re attempting to exert influence over someone, you have to consider ethics; however, there are times when you have a right to  protect yourself or stand your ground. Use this magical timing wisely.

By the morning of Sunday, November 6th through Monday the 7th, all that harsh, aggressive energy of Saturn will be washed away by the Sun and Moon. The moon enters the sign of Aquarius, so these are good days for humanitarian causes. If there are problems in the world or in your community that sadden you, this is a great time to lend your positive energy towards a solution. On another note, it’s also a good time to solve any technology problems you might be having. Cast spells on glitchy computers or poor nmf2internet connection to try and give it a little boost.

Need to do some POTION BREWING? Plan a potion brewing night for Tuesday the 8th or Wednesday the 9th.

The FULL MOON falls on November 14, a Monday. The moon will be in Gemini. This is a perfect full moon for giving a boost to old magic. It’s not so good for starting new things– Gemini’s fickle energy will not provide for long-term success when it comes to new things. But it’s just perfect for re-charging magic that’s been fizzling: give a boost to a honey jar, your charm bag or Witch’s ladders.

Planning a wedding soon? Wednesday the 16th, when the moon enters Cancer and you’re still riding the tail of the Full Moon energy, this is a good day for spells to help it make things go smoothly. Note, this is not for magic to help the bride and groom’s relationship; I’m talking wedding planning spells– getting the venue you want, making a good deal with a baker, and other such wedding details.

However, if you do need to bust through some relationship obstacles, Friday the 18th of November is your best bet. Spells to break out of a rut, rekindle the flame, put problems to rest, etc. will be ideal for this waning moon in Leo. Channel your passion for your partner into resolving that which  might break you apart.

Struggling with fertility issues? Try to banish them on Friday, November 18th, when the moon is in Virgo and we enter the Sun sign of Sagittarius.

Wednesday, November 23rd is a very useful day, magically speaking, if you’re stuck in a bind– literally. Is there a contract you’re trying to break, a deal you’re trying to wiggle out of, some agreement from which you need release? The moon is in Libra and it’s a Wednesday during a waning moon– perfect to break the ties that bind.

nmf4

nmf3Here in America it is, anyway. Are you cooking, or bringing a dish? Then you need to consider doing some Thanksgiving magic for your holiday! All you  Kitchen Witches, check out my Hubs here:

Kitchen Witchery for Thanksgiving

Wishbone Magic for Thanksgiving

Powerful banishings for just about any serious problem are best performed on November 26. This is not for minor problems, but to blast through some major obstacles: addiction, disease, curse breaking, etc.

Finally, if you have some heavy-duty pathworking or divination work to do, November 28-30th, right over the new moon, is just what you are looking for.

That’s it for November 2016’s magical potential! So get out your spellbooks and do some planning– because, remember! By mid-December we’re going to be heading into that Mercury retrograde pre-shadow. While that doesn’t mean you can’t do magic at all, your options are going to be more limited.
